Platform wedding shoes

There are two options for comfortable high heel shoes.  First, the bride can look for platform wedding shoes.  These are shoes with any sort of platform in front.  Some of them have a half inch platform and others have a platform that is a full one inch.  Because of the platform, a 4 inch heel will feel like a 3 inch heel.  This relives some of the pressure from the feet while still giving the bride the added height she is looking for.  Many platform shoes also come with a little ankle strap so that the feet don’t fall out of the platforms.  The other option is to buy a wedge bridal shoe.  The wedge heel shoes that are this high usually have a platform in front to make the shoe more balanced.  Again, this allows for more comfort.  On top of that, you have a lot more stability with the wedge, especially since the bride will be trying to balance herself in a heavy dress with really high heels.

There are many different options for the bride looking for 2 inch or 2 and a half inch heels.  However, be aware that manufacturers tend to go higher, meaning 3 inches or more, or lower, meaning 1 inch or 1 and a half inch so the 2 inch heel is sometimes harder to find.  Many of the more comfortable shoe brands such as Naturalizer, Easy Spirit, or Aerosoles tend to make the 2 inch heels since their shoes are for women looking for comfort.  Sometimes, you will find some fantastic shoes in these stores.  Be sure to check during the summer when they have more sandals out or check their evening shoes area.  Otherwise, you will only find very basic pumps and then regular shoes.

Medium heel bridal shoes

Another option to look for in 2 inch bridal shoes is the mule.  This is an open-toe or closed toe shoe with a little heel in the back.  The closed toe mules are oftentimes pointed and the front is beautifully decorated.  The open toes usually have thin straps.  The heel in the back is either a more solid square heel or sometimes you will find the little stiletto heel that makes the shoe even fancier and more feminine.  Whatever style you choose, this option is great since it is easy to slide on under the dress and also allows for fairly good balance.

Wedge bridal shoes

The wedge heel is also sometimes a good option in this height.  The 2 inches is still pretty high, but on a wedge, it doesn’t look too bad or too noticeable, unlike a higher wedge where you can definitely see the entire wedge on the bottom.  Many fantastic sandals come with the wedge heel.  This heel also allows for better balance.  In the 2 inch heel height, the wedge bridal shoes usually does not have a platform in front.

Finally, the bride can look for just simple heels either pumps or strappy shoes. There are less options out there, but if you search, you will find something you like.   There are actually more pumps in this heel height than there are bridal sandals, but the summertime will offer more styles and choices.

1) Will you be purchasing more than 1 pair? If you are planning on buying a back-up pair of wedding flip flops or wedge heels to change into, then you don’t have to worry about comfort and can really just look for anything you want.

2) How long will you be standing in the shoes? Many brides forget that the entire day does not just consist of the ceremony and the reception. You will also be taking photographs before the ceremony. In between, there is usually a cocktail hour. And, no matter what, high heels become uncomfortable after an hour of standing on them. The other option for flat bridal shoes is to buy wedding flip flops.  If your dress is long and touches the ground then nobody will really see the flip flops and your feet will be as comfortable as walking along the beach.  With wedding flip flops, you can buy white or ivory or silver or gold and match your dress.  Later on, you can take these on your honeymoon.  There are also special bridal flip flops that you can buy that will have unique lettering or pictures depicting a bride.  These are fun to wear since they are specific to a bride’s wedding day.

Whatever flat wedding shoes you choose to purchase, make sure they are comfortable and that you can wear them all night long.  Even some flats can be uncomfortable if they are poorly made.  However, if you choose the right pair, you will be wearing these again and again all summer long.

For brides whose grooms are not as tall, or for very tall brides, they may want to consider the low heel bridal shoes instead of choosing something with a very high heel.  The low heel will allow them to be comfortable all night long, but also allow for a little height and tapping of the heel as the bride walks down the aisle or dances her first dance.  That slight arch of the feet will look beautiful.

Kitten heels

There are many choices for brides looking for a low heel bridal shoe.  First and foremost, many flat bridal shoes come with a low heel.  The heel can sometimes be a little thicker if they are Mary Jane’s or pumps or bridal sandals.  These flats tend to be ½ inch or less so they are very low heels.  The other option for the bride looking for something slightly higher is a little kitten heel.  This is gorgeous on the feet and has a great silhouette.  The small kitten heel gives the bride much better balance than the 4 inch heels.  Plus, if the bride is looking for a tiny stiletto heel, then the kitten heel is the perfect choice.  Finally, one other choice is a small wedge heel.  This type of heel makes the shoe completely flat.  The bride will not have to worry about wobbling around on the heel.  The shoe will be raised from the back and will be very comfortable to stand on.  For brides who are not used to any heels at all, this could be a great option to add height without adding any instability.

The other way to get the same thing is again by choosing wedding flip flops with a slight heel.  Wedding flip flops will be completely flat, but have that extra height if you choose 1 inch flip flops.  Again, if your dress is long, wearing the flip flop will not matter.  This is a personal choice though since many brides want to match their shoes to their dress and flip flops, while fun, are not always the most beautiful match to the wedding dress.

After speaking to many brides about their wedding shoes, the ones that have felt the most comfortable, but still liked the extra height have been the ones that chose the low heel bridal shoes.  If you are tall, if you want to be comfortable, if you are not used to heels, then consider the 1 inch bridal shoes option.

After you’ve looked at your dress color, then, think about the dress style, including the shoe style that you’ve chosen.  The accessories should all match so if you’ve chosen flashier shoes, then see how flashier jewelry looks.  One good place to shop is a wedding jewelry place.  These types of stores will have many different wedding jewelry designs and many will have sets that you can look through.  The sets will be anywhere from conservative to really trendy so you can decide what type of look you want for the jewelry.  Don’t forget that you have at least 2 pieces of jewelry to consider and you can add a lot more.  The minimum you should have is earrings and a necklace.  The other things to consider are bracelets both on your arms and legs and even jewelry for your hair, whether it is in the form of a tiara or a really nice clip.  This is all jewelry that you will have to think about buying and matching with your wedding day outfit.
